HIMALA!
We watched Himala by Ishmael Bernal for Film 102. I loved it, but what got me going during the last part was not just Nora Aunor's iconic spiel of "WALANG HIMALA!", but it was the nervousness I felt (actually the whole class) for the upcoming quiz. After the credits rolled and the background music of the DVD menu looped for around 72 thousand times, there was still no sign of Sir Campos. Suspense. Tension. Hahaha.

*Kuya William enters room*
......
*long pause*
Kuya William: Okay, attendance. Wala si Sir Campos.
Class: *cheers*MAY HIMALAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

Take that, Nora Aunor. Choba. =))

ola Capoeira!
I've been wanting to do Capoeira since Freshman year HS, thanks to my cousin's stories and Eddie Gordo of Tekken. Haha. I never got to enroll in a Capoeira class because of the sky-high prices and because of other school extra-curriculars taking up my time.

Now I'm really glad to have been part of the Capoeira experience, many thanks to UP EURO! The class started at almost 2 since the instructor was running a little late, but they thought of a fun way to stall by teaching us a few basics of Portugese (Eu-chamo me Mayee!) and other European languages. We were also given a short background on Capoeira.

It's a fusion of two of my loves and a frustration: dance, music and martial art. A common misconception about the roots of Capoeira is that slaves in Brazil created it as a way of defending themselves masked as dance. The lecturer said that the slaves weren't even allowed to dance back then, so yeah. However the hell it started, I'm just glad it did!

It was nice to learn about its orgins, but it sure did the job of getting us psyched up for the actual demo! By the time they were done with the lecture, people were scrambling out of the classroom to the open area.

Mr. Fantasma (the master instructor) was brilliant! He moved so swiftly. Some of his students "performed" for us too. I can't wait till the day I finally get to spar like they did. Students get baptized in special ceremonies in Capoeira, and they get cool Capoeira aliases to boot! Weeeoow. I also loved the whole atmosphere the live music set up for us. It was all so festive.

I'm happy to have learned even just the basics stance, the jinga and some variations of it. It's a whole body workout, so by less than half an hour, I was already sweating like crazy.

I don't really have a picture of myself doing any of that fancy Capoeira shit (because honestly I think I look kinda awkward, and was jabbar to the max hahaha), but just check out my 3 new videos here here and here! :D

I can't wait till I get to do Capoeira again! I'm really keeping my fingers crossed because EBC plans to set up a Capoeira Club/Org here in UP. Whoooo!

UP CAPOEIRA CLUB NAO, PLZZZ!

Long Hair Days.
I was looking at old multiply albums, and I got to catch a glimpse of how I used to look.

My hair was really nice back then.
I looked "conventionally pretty" with the typical model-esque shampoo commercial worthy hair. But yeah, I still ended up chopping it all off after high school ended.

I'm not sure if I'm going to grow it back that long again. I definitely don't miss the high maintenance part. Imagine how much time (and shampoo) I save. And the split ends? Good riddance. Hahaha. So I guess not. At least not anytime soon.

Wala lang. Ang random ng post na to.

FULL-LENGTH:

100 by Chris Martinez is about a stern, uptight and exacting woman with a terminal illness who tries to accomplish a list of 100 things to do before she dies. Her tasks vary from the simple to the complicated, from the practical to the mundane, from the ordinary to the extraordinary. In the process, she accepts the truth that even if death is something personal, dying never is.

BABY ANGELO by Joel Ruiz and Abi Aquino centers on an investigation that ensues when an aborted fetus is found in the dumpster of a run-down apartment complex. The lives of the tenants—a reclusive old man with curious ramblings, a landlord with overzealous thirst for justice and a young couple whose past threatens to unravel their marriage—are suddenly exposed in the hunt for the perpetrator of the baby's death.

BOSES (VOICES) by Ellen Ongkeko-Marfil is the story of a musician, who regains back his humanity by giving violin lessons to a child of the slums. In turn, the child, through the instrument, is able to get back his voice from a muted, abused and desensitized existence. This is a story of a friendship founded on the sublime beauty of music.

BRUTUS by Tara Illenberger tells the tale of two Mangyan children, hired by illegal loggers to smuggle wood from the mountains of Mindoro, as they embark on a dangerous journey to deliver the goods to the lowlands. In the process, they discover a world run by the greed of men, a world governed by ideologies that bring about the armed conflict that plague the Mindoro highlands, the home of their own people.

CONCERTO by Paul Alexander Morales is about how, in the last part of World War II, a special piano concert is held in the forests of Davao. In these boondocks, a displaced Filipino family becomes acquainted with a group of Japanese officers, similarly camped nearby. Based on true stories from the director's family, Concerto celebrates a family whose reverence for life, expressed through their love of music and friendship, can survive even war, and shows how beauty and compassion can grow in even the harshest of situations.

HULING PASADA (FINAL STOP) by Paul Sta. Ana follows the creative process of Ruby, a prolific writer, abandoned wife and protective mother. She writes about Mario, a taxi driver and father figure to a street child. As she tries to resolve Mario's story, she seeks refuge in her own creative output and the line between reality and fiction is blurred. Mario's past becomes entangled with her own inevitable future.

JAY by Francis Xavier E. Pasion is the name of the two protagonists in the film, one is living, the other dead. The living Jay is producing a documentary of the dead Jay, a gay teacher who was brutally killed. As Jay recreates and examines the life of his subject, his own life is affected when he unravels his subject's hidden life and secret love.

MY FAKE AMERICAN ACCENT by Onnah Valera and Ned Trespeces is a slice-of-life workplace comedy following the lives of technical support call center agents in the span of six months. Speaking with a fake American accent is a prerequisite for the job. This ensemble comedy is an inside look into the maddening, sleep-deprived, caffeine-fuelled lives of those who ply their trade in the call center industry.

NAMETS by Emilio “Jay” Abello is a colorful celebration of food as well as love, and the love of food above all, which is central to being Negrosanon and being Filipino. It follows the flirtation between Jacko and Cassie, two Negrenses who grew up in Bacolod, and whose lives revolve around food. The film will be shot on location in Negros Occidental and will be primarily in Hiligaynon, the language spoken in that region.

RANCHERO by Michael Christian Cardoz is the story of convicts who serve a special role inside the jail - they prepare the meals everyday. But in a jail where some inmates see no reason to continue living, what is the role of food? Is the food's role to extend life or to prolong the pain of those who don't want to live?

You get the best replies from them gay bitchez
There I was, watching live Justin Timberlake videos on YouTube. You don't need me to elaborate on how unquestionably breathtaking his performances are. And the dancing. MY GOD. After just three or so videos, I started palpitating and I couldn't take it anymore. I had to close the YouTube tab and send a GM thru text:

Putangina nyo Britney, Jessica Biel, Cameron Diaz, Janet Jackson, and whoever the hell he's dated and rumored to have dated. Nakakeme niyo si JT. TANGINA NYOOOO. HAHAHA CHOBA

And of course they couldn't just agree with me on that one. They just HAD to say more.

Jumar: Wag mo na isama si Britney. Nagmahalan naman talaga sila. Pero ito namang si Britney, tantanga-tanga kasi. Grrr.

Now that's a fan.

But the winningest replies of them all:

Rich: Add me to the list. Whore.
Andre: Haaa? No Fozee no! Don't be mad at me too! Hahahaha

You whores. HAHAHA. I love you! =))

Sunday Morning Rain is Falling
I realized how much I missed home when Mojo jumped onto the bed and woke me up. I snuggled under my thick comforter, surrounded by more pillows than what my condo bed would accommodate. I would have stayed in bed if I weren't hungry. I love chilly rainy mornings. I went downstairs, sat on the dining table, with bacon and eggs as ulam. Then realized how much I missed REAL breakfast.

I also missed conversations like THIS:

We were looking at gadget ads on the newspaper, and as usual, my computer illiterate Dad would ask my brother and me some questions.

Dad: Ano yung USB?
Me: *explains*
Dad: Aaaah. May USB dati sa Clark.
Me: Huh?
Dad: U.S. Base!

Dad: Ano yung Bluetooth?
Kuya Nap: Ngipin na blue.
Dad: Hindi, blue na utot!

Dad: Ano yung Gigabyte?
Kuya Nap: *explains*
Dad: Aaaaah. Si Mojo may Giga BITE!

=)) =)) =)) Ang corny k. Namatay kami ni Kuya.

Kuya Nap: AYOKO NA NGA MAG-EXPLAIN. GINAGAWA MO LANG JOKE!

Kuya Nap: Alam ko na kung kanino nagmana si Mayee sa kacornyhan.
Me: HOOOY mas grabe naman si Daddy! =))

Parang ayoko na bumalik sa condo. A 6-day school week can do that. :|

of which quirkiness makes the first two days of 2nd year a little more interesting.
I don't really have a word to describe some highlights of my first two days of school but... quirky. You'd think you've (almost) seen it all during Sophomore year, but really, you haven't. It's amusing, actually. Makes the 2nd year a little less boring since the doe-eyed phase is supposedly over.

For Philo10, someone besides the apparently pogi professor we were expecting showed up, and he said, "For those who enlisted in class just because of *insert pogi prof's name here*, I suggest you Change Mat now." HAHA. I found SocSci2 fun, and I think I probably would enjoy Philo10 since it's somewhat similar in a sense, so the prof wasn't the only reason for me enlisting in that class.... Just part of it.... Well, a significant part of it. :)) HAHA! Okay fine, that does not make me feel less guilty. =p I'm still not changing mat, since the new professor seems really fun and considerate. And take note of his interesting (yet awkward) icebreaker:

"Okay, I want to divide this class into two. The first group consists of the people who have been in a relationship, and the members of the other group are those who've had NBSB or NGSB!" (No Boyfriend/Girlfriend Since Birth)

YUN YUN EH. =))

*****

I think I've found the coolest jeepney ever. It totally kicked the ass of the one with blue interior lights and hip-hop music blasting on the speakers, as well as the one that sounds off a witch's laugh instead of a normal honk. How's a jeep with a portable DVD player in it?! How's THAT for the most entertaining jeepney experience ever?! Haha.

I stepped into the jeepney, and the song that was playing (rather loudly, might I add. Surround sound pa, hanep!) was the awesome live version of "Hotel California" by the Eagles. I look over to the dashboard and voila, may nakapatong pang portable DVD player! Needless to say, the jeep's passengers had their heads turned to the front of the jeep, watching through the unmoving traffic. They also played different performances from different concerts of classic musicians, like "Hey Jude" by the Beatles and Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight". Odiba. Kinilig din ako. Haha!

I picked a nice time to ride that certain jeep at that certain moment. It was the best jeepney ride ever, it made me not care that I was already late for my class. I don't think I've enjoyed Katipunan traffic this much before. :))

REAL classes start tomorrow. The slacking off was fun while it lasted!
